WILSON, NC  GOLDSBORO STREET IMPROVEMENTS

Allison Platt & Associates recently designed and prepared advisory construction documents for three blocks of Goldsboro Street in Wilson. The City is completing the final phase of the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, and this street will connect the park to Nash Street, Wilson's primary commercial street.  Historic elements of the streetscape such as concrete scoring patterns and brick gutters have been retained or recreated.  A simple pattern of brick sidewalks along the pedestrian portion of the sidewalk is complemented by scored concrete between the tree pits.  Irrigation for the trees and structural soil between the tree pits will help to keep the Bosque Elms healthy.  Utilities were being updated during the summer of 2017 and the streetscape is scheduuled to be complete by the end of the year.  Attractive sidewalks and shade trees should encourage new businesses and increase foot traffic between Nash Street and the park.
