WILSON, NC  ART PLAZA

Allison Platt & Associates was given the opportunity to redesign a small park next to the Arts Council and adjacent to Goldsboro Street.  The existing park is dominated by a large stage that faces away from the street.  There is a large stage in the Whirligig Park nearby, so the City desired a smaller stage and a more attractive setting for small concerts and films.  The design includes a small stage with a shade sail cover, a sloped grass lawn, and a wide walkway with benches, tables and chairs.  A planting area next to the Arts Council softens the building wall and provides room for artwork.  Indirect LED lighting under the benches and the stage combined with uplighting on buildings provides dramatic lighting for the space.  A light tower is planned for the entry to draw people in from Goldsboro Street.
