PEMBROKE, NC DESIGN GUIDELINES

Most design guidelines are written to protect historic buildings.  In Pembroke's historic core area there are only a small number of historic buildings remaining.  These guidelines include methods of preserving or restoring historic buildings, but also provide guidance for compatible infill buildings.  There are two sections, one for the downtown core, and another for the commercial corridors that link the downtown to the Lumbee Tribe headquarters and the main entry to downtown, and to UNC-Pembroke.  The goal is to link these areas to the downtown through improved pedestrian and bicycle connections and improved standards for site and building design.  The design guidelines build on the information in the master plan and are meant to be incorporated into the Unified Development Ordinance.
