New Bern and Goldsboro Streetscapes win 2015 NCAPA "Great Places" awards

The North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association (NCAPA) announced on March 3, 2015 that the Goldsboro Streetscape Project was selected as the "Great Main Street in the Making" honoree, and in the Professional Category, New Bern's Middle Street was selected as a "Great Main Street." We are pleased that the distinguished panel of judges recognized the work of Allison Platt & Associates and of the cities that have worked tirelessly to revitalize their communities. Goldsboro wins second TIGER grant

On July 26th, the US Department of Transportation announced that Goldsboro would receive a second TIGER grant for $5 million. The City will match that with another $1.7 million and use the funds to build a downtown park, finish the last two blocks of the Center Street streetscape, implement a wayfinding sign system, and add a concourse to the new Transfer Station. It is very unusual for a City of Golsboro's size to get a second TIGER grant. TIGER stand for Transportation Improvements Generating Economic Recovery. The press release is attached. Kudos of Julie Metz, downtown development director, who fought for the second application and clearly wrote a great proposal! Goldboro streetscape wins NC Main Street Award

Goldsboro hosted the largest-ever NC Main Street Conference in March of 2016.  Over 500 Main Street enthusiasts from around the state and from neighboring states attended. The streetscape project won an award for "Best Outdoor Space Improvement" at the award ceremony.  You can see the project sheets about this project HERE.
