GOLDSBORO, NC CENTER STREET IMPROVEMENTS PHASE TWO
Planning for Phase Two of the Center Street Improvements began in 2013 and construction documents were completed in early 2014. Teamed with The Wooten Company, engineers, AP&A planned two blocks of improvements including intersection roundabouts and locations for artwork and a 12'- tall granite fountain. In fall 2013 the City was awarded a $10 million TIGER grant, and the City added a third block to the plans. The design for the Phase 2 work differed from Phase 1 in that the wide center median was removed to allow space for head-in parking, which store owners favored. The completion of Phase 2 has stimulated renewed interest in downtown living and businesses. During construction and Since the completion of work, ~40 new businesses have opened, 25 properties have been sold to new owners/investors, and more than $6,000,000 has been invested or are planned in the downtown.
