DESIGN GUIDELINES

Allison Platt & Associates concentrates our work in historic downtowns and neighborhoods.  Design Guidelines are an important bridge between a master plan and a revitalized historic downtown.  They help save important historic assets and show how new buildings can complement and build on the historic fabric of the community.  Design guidelines encourage and protect investment by assuring that all parties will abide by the same high standards.  Many design guidelines focus solely on the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation, but AP&A's guidelines most often widen the focus to include new buildings, site design, signage, and outdoor dining.  Our large collection of images from communities of all sizes provides relevant examples to illustrate the direction and possible results of implementing design guidelines.  Example images from our travels are shown on this page.
