BELHAVEN, NC WATERFRONT MASTER PLAN
Belhaven is a town of 2300 in northeastern North Carolina. The economy, formerly based on agriculture and fishing, has faltered in recent years. However, Belhaven has a priceless resource: thousands of feet of undeveloped waterfront with good access from the Raleigh area and an excellent location near the Intracoastal Waterway. The plan shows a major new marina including permanent boat slips, covered dry storage, and mixed uses including residential, retail, restaurants, and a small hotel. The plan also shows a significant residential development to the west of the marina including townhouses and condominiums with dedicated boat slips. Vacant downtown waterfront properties are slated for residential and mixed use development, including a dinghy dock and offshore moorings for boaters from the Intracoastal Waterway. The plan generated developer inquiries immediately after completion, and a new waterfront condo project has been built.
